Congratulations for winning the prestigious Sentinels of Safety Award, the most coveted award for safety in the industry.

This award was first initiated in 1925 and has become the most outstanding symbol of excellence in safety.

About 20 years ago, I was approached by the American Mining Congress executive officers to take over the Sentinels of Safety Awards program.  Since that time, I have seen this impressive award grow from six to twenty categories.

In the past, the American Mining Congress (now the National Mining Association) and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration have provided all the previous years winners with a full sized replica to keep at no charge to the recipients.  But now, since the categories have grown to twenty, it became financially impossible to continue with the replacements.  I have agreed to produce these replacements (full size bronze Sentinels of Safety, mother and child, mounted on an elegant wood base) to previous winners, at our NMA and MSHA wholesale cost.

I am still responsible for the maintenance and the care taking of this esteemed award for NMA and MSHA.  I have also sculpted two smaller replicas of the Sentinels of Safety that are available to participants of the category winners.  These are available only to winners at our wholesale price and are not available to the general public.

I am 71 years old now and I am handing over the reins, ever so slowly, to Danny Blanton (my son-in-law).  Danny has been working with me for seven years and is more than capable of carrying on the business of Original Creations, Inc.
